The creator of the winning packaging
Today we chatted with its creator, Dario Frattaruolo, graphic designer. Dario will tell us how the project started and why he chose Packly to make it happen.
Dario is a graphic designer, illustrator, teacher, and art lover. Those who worked with him define him as a creative person, always having the right intuition. The Chakra Booster craft beer packaging project is his most recent success.
Q: How did the idea come about?
A: The meeting with the customer inspired me to create a packaging fully reflecting the soul of the brand and the quality of the product. Badalà Brewery develops in an urban background on the outskirts of Prato. The famous Tuscan city is multi-ethnic and characterized by strong social and cultural innovation.
The Chakra Booster beer, 100% handmade, is an explosion of taste, a mix of sweetness and sour notes. The product itself gave birth to the concept. It is a fusion of Indian symbolism and the patterns of traditional Japanese kimonos: a journey into taste starting right from the packaging.
Q: Why did you engage Packly?
A: The project I had in mind required flexibility in terms of models, sizes and finishes that only Packly could offer. I was able to unlock my creativity without having to follow the rules, neither in terms of size nor in terms of quantity. But the real kick was being able to preview my packaging project in 3D, including the embellishments. Moreover, with a simple link I shared it with the customer. This has been a real gem and step stone for a designer and packaging enthusiast like me.
Q: What led to the choice of the model?
Actually the choice fell on the bottom and lid box with a double-walled tray. The goal was to use a type of packaging not usually associated with beer. I wanted something that would allow me to entice the consumer at first glance. I bet on the surprise effect when realizing that the box contained beer. As a matter of fact, this product is commonly associated with a more minimal style.
Q: Did you use any special finishes?
A: Indeed special finishes were the accessory completing the tailor made project for Chakra Booster. Gold is an aesthetic standard typical of Japanese objects. Instead, the spot varnish emphasized the tone-on-tone pattern. This detail created a unique tactile effect.
Certainly the Chakra Booster packaging designed by Dario Frattaruolo came in first at Best Pack 2021 and received a special mention as Best Coordinated Packaging within the Riva Hospitality Event. In addition, it won the silver medal at Vinitaly Design and was a finalist at One More Pack.
