Emotional packaging, which we have already talked about, is conceived, designed and created to give added value to the experience of buying and using a product. This kind of packaging is capable of creating an emotional and sensory connection with consumers, surprising them and, quite often, conquering them.
This was the key concept that inspired the Finnish designer Saara Jarvinen her ingenious packaging design project: The Grand Opening. At the first glance they look like plain white boxes, but we assure you: they have the potential to conquer the end user. How, you ask? Simply by opening them!
Their peculiarity, in fact, lies in the way they open or, to use better words, from the experience that derives from the process. It’s no news that the lifespan of a package is much shorter than that of most everyday objects. This is why Jarvinen has chosen to emphasize a very common feature of packaging: it’s opening. The Finnish designer was able to transform this simple action it a unique moment. Each of the boxes aroused emotion, suspense and meaning by simply opening in an unexpected way. These, in fact, are the things that make up the core of emotional packaging. A simple gesture that turns into a ritual, an occasion to stop and reconsider the value of packaging.
Press, tear, pull, twist and crush: these are the opening methods for each single box.
To achieve this result, each package was made after carefully studying the cinematic techniques that define time and movement. Cinema is an art based on a narrative method that is very rapid and fully exploits the potential of practical gestures and various means of communication.
The result is unique yet simple packaging that generates great emotion. The gestures thus become the distinctive element of the product. in fact, each food is associated with a specific action that aims to enter the everyday life of consumers and to ultimately conquer them.
